Support is not a cost center. It is the beating heart of your revenue engine, but it will only act like one if you treat it with the respect it deserves.
Right now, the broader tech industry is massively obsessed with deflection. The prevailing trend is to use AI to keep customers as far away from human beings as possible, treating every interaction as a nuisance to be minimized. We are watching companies blindly equate automated resolution rates with customer satisfaction.
Let me be perfectly clear. Closing a ticket is not the same thing as satisfying a customer. You can force an automated resolution, but you cannot automate trust.
Support needs respect put on its name! Customer experience professionals choose this career because they genuinely love helping people. Treating their empathy, expertise, and emotional intelligence as a cost burden that a company must eradicate is offensive, tasteless, and completely blind to how good business works. We need to elevate great support, not bust it down to the equivalent of an automated robot bussing tables.
The real value your support team brings is not found in ticket deflection rates. It is found in the immense brand equity and unbreakable trust you build with your customer base. Support professionals identify product gaps, fix root causes, and build lifelong relationships. They are the frontline advocates of your brand.
I wrote The Economy of Helpfulness based on one fundamental truth that guides everything I do. Helpfulness is a growth engine.
The economy of helpfulness proves that when you genuinely help your customers succeed, they help you back. They do it through fierce loyalty, ongoing partnership, and direct revenue growth. They reward you more happily, more generously, and more sustainably than any algorithmic deflection strategy ever could.
We believe that true access is a form of respect. Being able to easily reach a human being when you need one is how you show your customers their time actually matters. You should never have to choose between a high touch human experience and technical efficiency. You can absolutely have both.
As AI continues to commoditize everything else, human relationships will become the last defensible competitive advantage. In this new world, human contact is a premium experience. The right kind of technology makes that contact faster, easier, and most importantly, more insightful.
This is the exact philosophical foundation of what we built at Hyphen. We use AI to scale human respect, not to replace teams. By surfacing deep context and eliminating friction, we empower support professionals to do what they do best. We give them the tools to treat customers like actual people.
The companies that will win the next decade are not the ones that figure out how to hide behind the tallest algorithmic walls. The winners will be the companies that use technology to tear those walls down.
Let's build a future that actually cares about people.
